Mission

Science Firsthand- Partners in Discovery seeks to provide youth with safe opportunities for exploring their world scientifically during after school time. It uses a mentoring model so that youth have an equal footing with the adult in deciding what is investigated and how long to continue an investigation. The adult is a co-investigator (rather than teacher).

By working without a curriculum, SF is designed to awaken adults to the possibility of investigating their world firsthand, that is, from direct experience.

For all Science Firsthand participants the goal is to create caring relationships based on the fun that is inherent in doing science, in making discoveries, in learning from experiments that "fail".
